2018 Male Recipient – Cedric Riel

Cedric Riel will graduate from Kennewick High School where he participated in football, soccer, basketball and track & field, earning 6 varsity letters. As a Junior, he was selected to be Captain of Track & Field team, and as a senior, was selected for that honor on both the Football and Track & Field Teams. Cedric credits football as having taught him how “to learn to work hard – and give his all.” It apparently has, as he is headed to college where he will continue to play the sport.

Cedric carried that same work ethic into the classroom, taking many honors and IB classes. He is in the Top Ten of his class, set to graduate with a 3.9 GPA..

Off campus, Cedric has helped raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics by taking the icy jump in the river (10 times!) at the Polar Plunge. He’s enjoyed being a Young Life Leader this year and has spent time providing assistance at a local nursing home.

A loud, reoccurring description of Cedric includes admiration for his work ethic and high moral character. One coach stated “He is the example for what a coach/teacher wants from a player/student…He may be the hardest working student I have encountered during my 18 year career.”
