Brent Schafer will be graduating from Southridge High School where he played football for 1 year and basketball and baseball all 4 years. As a senior, he was selected team captain for both basketball and baseball teams. For his efforts, this year he received the Mid-Columbia Conference Winter Student Athlete Award as well as the KNDU Tri-Cities Academic Award for his accomplishments on and off the basketball court.
One description of Brent included: I think as much as anything it is Brent’s poise under pressure that I admire the most; he seems at his best when others around him are becoming frantic.
Brent was plenty busy outside of the classroom and off the court. For several years, he was a student mentor in the IGNITE program at Southridge. The goal of the program is to provide incoming students with a positive role model and someone to turn to on campus.
Brent also served as the Key Club President and it was his responsibility to organize and manage volunteer activities for the community – his favorite being the Toys for Tots campaign. He could also be found volunteering at events such as the Turkey Trot, Special Olympics and Little League.
Brent is a member of National Honor Society, has taken countless Honors and Advanced Placement classes and will be one his school valedictorians, graduating with a 4.0 GPA.
